Sundance Online Film Festival Case Study
Friday February 22, 2002 11:00pm to 12:00pm
Title: The development of successful web based content forums
Topics will include: Viable business models for web-based content forums and the incorporation of the latest technologies including: Encoding, Website Design, DRM, Peer-to-Peer, Wireless, and Interactive Film Projects.
Summary:
The effect of moving images on the web has opened a new arena for experimentation and controversy. But, as always, the critical questions remain the same: Does the artist have something significant to say? Can it be said effectively within the current technological limitations of the web?
The momentum of the digital revolution in the entertainment industry adds both opportunities and challenges for filmmakers, writers, directors and technologists, with each development raising its own set of issues and questions. From the outset, The Vertical Group’s mission has been to create viable web-based forums for the creative community to tell their stories while integrating the latest technologies into their creative process.
The Vertical Group, Producer of the 2001 and 2002 Sundance Online Film Festivals will explore with you the creation and maturation of content forums intended for Internet exhibition. We will examine in depth the technologies and content used to produce the Sundance Online Film Festival visited by over 3 Million people.
